NewfStock 2014 Wrap-Up

What a weekend!

Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who worked so hard to pull off this fabulous event, and thanks also to our incredible supporters who came out and made the whole weekend a huge success.

The weather was lousy but that didn't dampen the spirits of our amazing supporters and friends.
We are thrilled to announce that NewfStock 2014 brought in $26,500 for Newf Friends!!!!

We are working on collecting photos and will add more to this post as we receive them.

The Friday swim date was well attended and as always was loads of fun for all.  The group hike on Sunday was also well attended and the gang had a fun time out at Vance Park.

The main event on Saturday was packed with demos and seminars,  vendors, our merchandise, raffle and auction booths and so much more.  The pouring rain resulted in some cancelled demonstrations, games and activities, but a fun time was still had by all.

Even in the cold, damp weather, the homemade lemonade tasted deeeeeeelicious!  Thank you Ty and Riley for another awesome fundraiser!  You two boys are an inspiration to us all!

Ferghus & Co
A few Newfs and their owners braved the rain and hit the awesome course provided by Ferghus & Co.  Thank you Erica and Andrew for the fabulous course!

Games, games and more games!  Hot-dog bobbing in the rain - why not?  Everyone was already wet anyway!

Joan Fisher's carting demo was superb as always.  Thank you Joan for once again doing a great job.

The kissing booth was THE place to be, everyone had a great time.  One of our MC's Michael Scott is seen here getting some love from Sisko.

WILMA! Naturally Wilma the Bloodhound (below) had to pucker up and get in on the fun!   It was no surprise when Wilma won the prize for longest ears!

The park was rockin' to the tunes by Work'n Dawgs -- what a GREAT performance they put on!  Thank you to Geoff Webber and Bill Black for donating their time, talent and sound system for our event.

Mike and Ashleigh did a fantastic job as MCs, keeping the day running on time, pumping up the crowd in the pouring rain, telling us some hilarious jokes, and entertaining the park. Thank you both for keeping us laughing all day long!

Ash cheers on Muckle and family as they take the stage to accept the prize for Muckle being the tallest dog at NewfStock!

Kaila Abele is keeping warm during her grooming seminar.  Thank you Kaila for the great seminar!  Kaila's handout is available for download here.

Thank you also goes out to Dr. Kim Facey of Apsley Veterinary Services for her excellent first aid seminar, Dr. Janice Selinger from Bridle Trail Veterinary Clinic for her seminars on Skin Health and Ortho issues, and Al and Lynda McFadden from Jalynn Kennels for their seminar on health clearances.

Visitors came from near and far.  The prize for the person who traveled the farthest went to Hannah Warren who drove up from Maine to join in on the fun!  Hannah arrived on Thursday and helped with a bunch of the prep for NewfStock and brought some fabulous donations from her bakery.  Visitors also joined us from New Jersey, Connecticut, Quebec and all across Ontario from the South Western part of the province up to Sault St Marie.

All of our visitors were generous and supportive, and the merchandise, auction and raffle booths were busy all day long.  Thank you to all of our donors who sent AMAZING raffle and auction items. We had stunning artwork, quilts, blankets, gift sets, glasswork, pottery and more.  Our custom merchandise will be available for purchase through our online store later this week.

The rescue parade was wet but cheerful as we were all singing in the rain!  The Bergsma family took the prize for bringing in the most pledges, over $3200!  Way to go!    Thank you to everyone who sponsored our parade!

Thanks to everyone for another successful event, and a special thank you to the fifty volunteers who put this whole weekend together, traveled far distances to help out and work so hard to help Newfs in need across Ontario.

Great job everyone!

Sandra

Here are some important things to remember to help you get the most out of your weekend.
Directions and maps are posted on this site here.

Important times:

Swim Date Diamond Lake Beach 2 - 330
Tent set up Millennium Park 430 - 6
Pizza party 630 (after tents are up)
Saturday
Main event Millennium Park 10am - 5pm (full itinerary will be posted on the website by Wednesday)

Bring cash to spend at the event -- there will be vendors, our massive merchandise booth with a bunch of new products, and there will be amazing penny raffle and silent auction items.
The weather forecast is looking pretty good -- cool, but sunny, perfect for the dogs.  Bring some warm clothing - Saturday evening our newf social will be outdoors at the hotel under a tent so that we can all have our dogs with us -- the overnight temp is expected to be 3 degrees C (37 degrees to our US friends) so bring a hat, mitts, warm jacket and scarf. Your newf is going to be sooooo happy with these cool temps!  BYOB.  There will be a karaoke machine, so warm up your vocal cords (and maybe bring some earplugs).  LOL!

Those of you coming up from south of the border, remember to pack your passport and proof of vaccines for your dog.
Safe travels everyone, we'll see you in a few days!

Local Businesses - great opportunity!

NewfStock is just a few weeks away -- Bancroft area businesses, you can promote your business at no cost in our welcome package!

NewfStock is a huge gathering of supporters of Newf Friends Newfoundland Dog Rescue (a division of HART) and the 3 day event draws hundreds of dog lovers from across Canada and the US. The main event is on Saturday, Sept 13, 2014 in Millennium Park, Bancroft.

We're putting together welcome packages for attendees, many of whom are coming from out of town and staying 3 or more days in Bancroft. If you'd like to offer a coupon or discount for attendees to encourage them to visit your business while they are in town please drop off your coupons/vouchers/brochures to Sandra at West Wind Gallery & Gifts by the end of the month (please bring a minimum of 250 - more if you want everyone who comes to the park to get one). Welcome packages will be distributed to all attendees who check in to the hotel and to everyone who visits the welcome booth at Millennium Park on Sept 13.

We're also teaming up with one of the organizers of the Hilly Hundred to encourage local businesses to take advantage of a similar opportunity for the weekend of October 4th when Hilly Hundred participants will be in town with their friends and families. If you would like to have your business included in their welcome package, drop off 75 additional coupons/vouchers/brochures and we'll have them added to the Hilly Hundred package.

We hope to see many local businesses support these two events which are filling hotels and bringing visitors to our area, helping to boost the local economy!

NewfStock 2014 Info Package

NewfStock is Newf Friend’s biggest fundraiser of the year and the funds raised at this event are needed to keep our rescue running throughout the whole year.  Thank you for participating in this event!

Our goal for NewfStock 2014 is to bring in $25,000 (yes, we're an ambitious group) and a large portion of that will be coming from pledges, so please start collecting today!  Read on the learn more....

Parade Pledges

We’re kicking off the day with an all breed parade around Millennium Park, led by rescue dogs.  We encourage all attendees to join in the parade either with or without a dog (of any breed), and show your support of rescue.   What a sight this is, over 100 Newfs plus loads of Newf wannabees parading around the park!

We’re asking attendees to collect pledges to bring in much needed dollars to help us meet the needs of Newfs over the coming months.  Every dollar helps so whether you collect $25 or $2500 your support is greatly appreciated!  We have a special prize for the person who collects the most pledges!  In 2012 the prize for collecting the most pledges went to Allison Sabo.   Maybe you will be this year's winner?

It couldn't be easier to participate -- we’ve arranged two simple ways you can collect pledges.
  • Download & Print a Pledge Sheet. Collect pledges and bring the money collected and the pledge sheet to Newfstock. (Newf Friends is a division of HART, a registered charity, and donations over $20 will generate a tax receipt.  ****Cheques should be payable to HART with Newf Friends in the memo line.) Here's the link to the printable pledge form:  http://www.newfstock.ca/pdf/NewfStock_Pledge_form_2014.pdf
  • Online Pledge Collection. For your convenience, a personalized online pledge form can be created enabling you to generate pledges from family and friends around the globe!  These online forms enable your friends to donate online with a click of their mouse, and eliminate the need for you to collect pledges and bring them with you.  So easy!  Your customized page will have any info you want, including your fundraising goal, a photo of your choice and a message of your choice.  Here's the scoop on how to set up your Giving page: http://www.newfstock.ca/pdf/Newfstock_Giving_Pages_2014.pdf
