NewfStock 2016 Wrap-Up

Thank you to everyone who came out to NewfStock 2016 and made our weekend another huge success!  Newf Friends Newfoundland Dog Rescue brought in over $24,000 to go towards the care of Newfs in need.

The weekend started with our Friday afternoon swim date.  The weather was perfect and the dogs all had a great time splashing about in the pristine waters at Diamond Lake.

The Friday night pizza party at the Sword Best Western in Bancroft was a great chance for everyone to get together and socialize, catch up with old friends and make new ones.  On Sunday several Newfs gathered for a group hike at Vance Park.

The main event on Saturday was loads of fun with an action packed schedule of events.  We started the day with our big Parade which featured dogs of all breeds -- what a sight to see!

The rain held off for most of the morning and everyone had a great time playing in the games section provided by Ferghus and Co from Kinburn, ON.  (A great place for your pet, if you are in that part of the province check them out!)

New this year, we featured a Working Dogs booth and a Healthy Newf booth.  Volunteers answered questions about working dog activities including draft work, water rescue, therapy work, scent detection and more.  Information about the National and Regional Newf Clubs was shared to encourage participants to join their area club and get involved in working activities with their Newfs. Seminars were offered on nutrition and skin health, and loads of free product samples were given to attendees.

Seminars this year included a new seminar on scent detection by Tami Koehle which was very popular -- it will be brought back again next year!

Peggy Flockhart came out to do the on-land water rescue demo -- her boy Seamus did a fabulous job showing the different components of the water test.  Such enthusiasm!

The Meet the Newfs booth was a popular spot for everyone to stop by and meet some of the Newfs who have come through our program.  There was an extra large crowd  when Colin and George arrived to sign copies of Free Days with George.  George was adopted through Newf Friends and is now a famous surfing dog and subject of Colin's National Best Selling book.  Talk about happy endings!

Our merchandise booth was a HUGE success this year, featuring all new garments with new designs.  Keep an eye on our website, we will be posting the new garments for sale online soon!  Our 2017 calendars were also launched and will be online shortly.

To celebrate rescues, our parade will be headed up by rescued dogs – all dogs regardless of breed or which rescue they are from are invited to join in!

 NewfStock is Newf Friend’s biggest fundraiser of the year and the funds raised at this event are needed to keep our rescue running throughout the whole year.  Thank you for participating in this event!
Our goal for NewfStock 2016 is to bring in $25,000 (yes, we're an ambitious group) and a large portion of that will be coming from pledges, so please start collecting today!  Read on the learn more....

Parade Pledges

We’re kicking off the day with an all breed parade around Millennium Park, led by rescue dogs.  We encourage all attendees to join in the parade either with or without a dog, and show your support of rescue.   What a sight this will be, over 100 Newfs plus loads of Newf wannabees parading around the park!  

We’re asking attendees to collect pledges for those participating in the Parade to bring in much needed dollars to help us meet the needs of Newfs over the coming months.  Every dollar helps so whether you collect $25 or $2500 your support is greatly appreciated!  We have a special prize for the person who collects the most pledges!  In 2014 the prize for collecting the most pledges went to the Bergsma family who brought in $3200! Wowzers! Maybe you will be this year's winner?  

It couldn't be easier to participate -- we’ve arranged two simple ways you can collect pledges. 

• Download & Print a Pledge Sheet. Collect pledges and bring the money collected and the pledge sheet to Newfstock. (Newf Friends is a division of HART, a registered charity, and donations over $20 will generate a tax receipt.  ****Cheques should be payable to HART with Newf Friends in the memo line.) The Weekend at a Glance

Friday, September 16th
2:00 – 3:30 pm Romp and Swim – Weather Permitting
Location: Diamond Lake Public Beach
Details: Everyone welcome.  Beach is located about 15 minutes from the hotel on a very quiet street.  Ample parking is available; the beach is large, sandy with a park area surrounding it.
Dogs must be on leash at all times.  Please clean-up after your dog.
This is not an “official” Newf Friends activity, but rather a suggested meeting place for Newf lovers.   
What you need: Bring your own chair, towels, etc.

Meet the Newfs: Throughout the day we will have meet and greets set up with some of the awesome Newfs who have come through our program. Meet the dogs YOU helped save with your generous donations.

Raffle Items: Fabulous items donated by generous businesses, volunteers and friends.  You don’t want to miss out on this penny raffle!

Silent Auction: We have some awesome items donated by our fabulous supporters, get ready for bidding wars!

Games: You and your Newf will have a blast bobbing for hotdogs, racing with eggs, playing musical chairs and competing in our obstacle course.  Fun for the whole family!

Vendors: Newf Friends will be selling our custom made newf themed items with all profits going to the rescue.  We have new products you're going to love!

Seminars and Info Booths:  New this year, we have a “Working Dog” booth and a “Healthy Newf”. In the Working Dog booth there will be information, equipment and knowledgeable volunteers to answer your questions about working activities like draft work, therapy work, water rescue, scent detection, tracking, agility and obedience. In the Healthy Newf booth volunteers will demonstrate equipment and exercises to improve orthopedic health and will be on hand to discuss diet, supplements and ways to promote healthy skin, ears and coats.
Social Activities: Catch up with old friends and make some new ones!  There’s lots of places to sit and relax at the park and just enjoy the day, and we have a beer garden this year!

Photo-shoot: Have your Newf featured in the 2018 Newf Friends calendar!  For a donation your Newf will be photographed for the calendar.   Sign up at the registration booth!


Demos: Check out the carting, water rescue and scent detection demos! What fun!  Don’t miss this chance to see some gorgeous Newfs doing what they love to do!

Pampered Pooch - Nail Clipping:  For a donation your pooch’s nails will be clipped all proceeds go to Newf Friends.

HART's All Breed Booth:  Our parent organization HART will be in attendance with a fantastic booth with lots to see and buy!  Be sure to pick up some raffle tickets!

Food and Beer Garden:  This year the Bancroft Legion will be providing food and drinks in support of the Legion.  
Music: Once again Work'n Dawgz will be providing the entertainment. Get ready for some toe tapping tunes!

Follow Highway 62 up through Madoc, and continue on to Bancroft.
Turn right at the stop sign at Bridge Street.
Turn left at the lights at Bridge Street and Hastings Street.
Follow Hastings Street to Millennium Park, on your left just past the Sword Motor Inn

From West (Peterborough)
Take 115 to the end at Highway 7 EAST and turn right towards Ottawa
Follow to Highway 28.  Turn left to Bancroft
Follow all the way into Bancroft (about an hour)
Turn left onto Hastings Street at the lights
Follow Hastings Street to Millennium Park, on your left just past the Sword Motor Inn
